A woman and a 12-year-old child were declared dead after floods swept away their vehicle, authorities in Moore, Oklahoma, said.
The victims’ bodies were located outside a Jeep that was washed off a bridge near Southeast 12th Street and S Eastern Avenue and became submerged in the water.
“This was a historical weather event that impacted roads & caused dozens of high-water incidents across the city,” police said.
A third occupant of the Jeep was found safe, along with two others whose truck was also swept away by flooding.
Local officials said Saturday they were assisting “more than a dozen” stranded motorists.
“Multiple roads and neighborhoods have water over the curbs. Stay home if at all possible,” they said on social media.
