A Minnesota man believed “the devil was in the walls” when he shot his wife, threatened to shoot his baby, and set their home on fire on March 22.
The woman suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and survived to tell detectives that her 31-year-old husband, Lue Xiong, had been using “illegal narcotics” and was “talking to walls.”
Xiong reportedly tore walls apart and was not sleeping before the shooting. She added that her husband had once fired his gun at the walls.
On the day of the shooting, Xiong accused his wife, with whom he shared six children, of infidelity, something she denied.
The man threatened his wife with an AK-47 if she did not tell the truth before shooting her in the leg, forcing their two oldest children to tend to her.
Police also said that Xiong believed his 8-month-old baby “has the devil inside him” and that he “nearly pointed the gun at the baby” before another child stopped him.
Xiong’s wife was lying in bed when he started a fire in the home’s laundry room. The family managed to flee the home and was not harmed.
