A Las Vegas murder suspect faced the parents of her 3-year-old victim in court Thursday, one day after she allegedly stabbed the girl to death.
Marketta Phillips, 41, stands accused of killing little Journei while babysitting her at a Las Vegas apartment she shared with the baby’s father, Jeremy Ross, who discovered the gruesome scene.
“I saw her in the kitchen lying on her side,” Ross said about his on-again off-again girlfriend, Phillips.
“There was dried-up blood, and I thought she was cooking and cut herself.”
The man rushed to check on Journei but found her stabbed multiple times.
“I went to the room and saw my baby girl right there. I said, ‘What did you do to my child?’ And instantly called 911, doing chest compression, everything for my child…Right when I called 911 is when she booked it out of the house.”
Journei’s mother, Phalan Whitson, said that she wants to know the alleged killer’s motive.
“Seeing her face for the first time, horrible. You did that to my baby. How?” she asked.
“That was an extension of my soul. I just want an explanation. Why? And I want you to go away for a long time.”
