2 killed, 5 injured in wrong-way crash in downtown Houston

A mother and her 9-year-old son were killed, and five other people were injured in a three-car crash in downtown Houston early Monday.

The collision occurred shortly after 12:45 a.m. on the North Freeway near the Dallas and Preston exit when a red Ford F-150 drove the wrong way, crashing into a Mitsubishi Outlander and a Nissan Rogue.

The 33-year-old mother and her son, who died in the crash, were occupants of the Mitsubishi. The father and 10-year-old daughter survived but are in critical condition.

    The two occupants of the Nissan were also injured but are not in critical condition.

    The 44-year-old male wrong-way driver is under arrest after he underwent surgery. Investigators are determining whether impairment is involved.

    “If I knew he was intoxicated, he would already be charged,” Sgt. David Rose with the HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division.
