Three juveniles were charged with murder in connection to a fatal crash that killed a Louisiana deputy early Sunday morning.

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Deputy Sgt. Grant Candies, 37, was fatally struck by the fleeing teens while deploying spike strips and assisting in the pursuit on Interstate 10 in Slidell.

Police said the chase started on Brownswitch Road when a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle driving recklessly without a tag displayed. The driver, 17-year-old Adrian Waughtal, “fled at a high rate of speed.”
