A Pueblo, Colorado woman was taken into custody after her elderly mother was mauled to death by loose dogs at her home last month.
Jessica Hoff, 47, allegedly left her dementia-stricken mother, 76-year-old LaVonne Hoff, unattended with several loose dogs on Feb. 3.
Deputies found the elderly woman unresponsive and pronounced her dead at the scene. An autopsy confirmed that she had died as a result of a dog attack.
An extensive investigation revealed that Jessica Hoff owned a total of 54 dogs and seven birds in two properties.
About two dozen dogs and the birds were kept in cages in unsanitary conditions.
Investigators also said that Hoff’s mother required 24-hour care when she left her home alone with the unrestrained dogs.
