A California mother was arrested after she allegedly stabbed her son to death at a motel after a trip to Disneyland earlier this week.
Saritha Ramaraju, 48, called 911 on Wednesday to report that she had murdered her 11-year-old son and had taken pills to end her life at a La Quinta Inn & Suites in Santa Ana.
Officers found the boy dead, his throat slit, on a bed surrounded by Disneyland souvenirs. Investigators said the boy had been dead for several hours before they were called.
Police said the killing occurred at the end of a three-day custody visit. The boy’s parents divorced in 2018.
Ramaraju was taken to a nearby hospital and then booked into Santa Ana City Jail.
“The life of a child should not hang in the balance between two parents whose anger for each other outweighs their love for their child,” said Orange County DA Todd Spitzer.
“Instead of wrapping her arms around their son in love, she slit his throat and, in the cruelest twist of fate, removed him from the very world she brought him into.”
