A Florida girl was lured to her death through a social media app and authorities are now looking for her remains.
Miranda Corsette, 16, met her alleged killer, 35-year-old Steven Gress, on Valentine’s Day at his home after a social media exchange.
“I just want to remind all the parents out there please, please, I’m begging you, please make sure you know what your kids are doing on social media,” said Police Chief Anthony Holloway.
“And to the kids also, if someone is contacting you who is not a family member please let your parents know.”
Miranda returned back to Gress’ home the following day and this time, she remained with him and his girlfriend, 37-year-old Michelle Brandes.
On Feb. 20, a dispute over some missing jewelry erupted and the girl was beaten. Detectives believe she was killed between Feb. 20 and Feb. 24.
Gress allegedly loaded the slain girl into a car and drove to a Largo home where he dismembered her body.
He then traveled to Hillsborough County where he tossed the body parts in a dumpster. Police are still looking for Miranda’s remains.
“I never thought this guy has the capabilities to do what they allegedly say he did,” a neighbor said.
Gress was already in custody for unrelated charges on Thursday when he was charged with Miranda’s kidnapping.
Police are looking for his girlfriend. Anyone with information about Brandes is asked to call the St. Petersburg Police at 727-893-7780.
