A barricaded gunman was found dead after a standoff triggered by a domestic assault Wednesday afternoon, police in Northern Michigan said.
Michigan State Police troopers responded to a call reporting the domestic incident on North Street in Whittemore at around 3:45 p.m.
The victim managed to flee the home with serious injuries while the 45-year-old suspect barricaded himself inside the residence.
With the assistance of the MSP Emergency Support Team, troopers spent several hours trying to make contact with the suspect.
The officers ultimately entered the home and found the gunman deceased inside an attached garage.
The suspect’s identity was not immediately disclosed as the investigation continues.
