A Missouri woman accused of not feeding her baby for about 36 hours allegedly claimed she had “a migraine” and was taking a nap.
Alyssa Wehmeyer, 21, was taken into custody following the Feb. 28 death of her 1-year-old who showed signs of “severe malnutrition and neglect” and had “very little evidence of food in the stomach.”
The mother allegedly told detectives she last fed the baby at around 6 p.m. on Feb. 26, approximately 36 hours before the child’s death.
She explained the “severe blisters” on the baby’s skin with the fact that she did not change the child’s diaper for “nearly 19 hours.”
Wehmeyer called 911 after the baby stopped breathing and their lips turned blue.
The mother was charged with abuse or neglect of a child resulting in death.
