Gunman sneaks behind teen; fatally shoots him at Philadelphia playground

Authorities in Philadelphia are looking for the gunman who reportedly snuck behind a teen before fatally shooting him at a playground late Monday.

Police said the victim was sitting near the slides at Russell DeRitis Playground at around 9 p.m. when the suspect shot him multiple times.

The victim suffered gunshot wounds to the face, head, back, and torso. He was pronounced dead at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center at 9:05 p.m.

  • Philadelphia Chief Inspector Scott Small said footage of the shooting showed the gunman approaching the teen from behind before firing several shots at close range.

    At the scene, detectives recovered nine spent shell casings from a semi-automatic weapon and a cellphone.

    “The scene consists of nine spent shell casings, all just a few feet or a few inches away from where he was lying so clearly the shooter was standing very close to this victim,” Small said.
