Parents arrested after toddler loses consciousness in bucket of bleach inside ‘completely filthy’ home

An Iowa couple was arrested after their 1-year-old child fell in a bucket of bleach and remained there until he lost consciousness.

Scott Marcov, 30, and Madelyn Marcov, 28, are facing charges of neglect of a dependent person and child endangerment while causing serious injury.

On Oct. 1, the couple’s 1-year-old son was rushed to Finley Hospital suffering “acute respiratory failure and loss of consciousness.”

  • Investigators learned the boy had fallen into a bucket of bleach for long enough for him to become unconscious. It was an older sibling who found him and alerted the parents.

    Officers responding to the incident noted that the house was “completely filthy” with trash and food strewn everywhere.

    “Officer observed mice moving around, a dead mouse on the floor in the kitchen, garbage, and food all over all over the floor and countertops.”

    They also found a dirty diaper inside a cooking pot on the kitchen top. The Marcovs’ other two children, age 6 and 4, were reportedly living in those conditions.
