The body of a dead woman was found along the North Oconee River earlier this month, triggering an investigation, Athens-Clarke Police said.
Authorities said that the body of 42-year-old Claudia Parks was discovered by a passerby in the woods bordering the river on Feb. 15.

“Someone was walking by from an elevated position and saw her. They thought she was sleeping and went to check on her,” said Police. Lt. Katie Jenkins.
The woman’s cause of death has yet to be determined but foul play was not suspected in her death.
Jenkins said Parks was associated with the homeless community in Athens.
