A Texas couple is facing charges after they allegedly left a toddler they were supposed to babysit with an 11-year-old hours before their pit bull attacked and killed her.
Deidre Wheeler and Lacharles Ramsey accepted to babysit the 2-year-old victim and an 8-month-old leaving both children with their six kids inside a Wichita Falls home on Dec. 29.
Wheeler’s 19 and 16-year-old children initially assumed the babysitting for about four hours before leaving for an event.
The toddler and infant were then left with an 11-year-old who told cops she was cooking dinner when the family’s pit bull broke loose and went after the 8-month-old.
The other kids intervened and saved the infant but the dog attacked the 2-year-old girl, fatally mauling her.
Authorities said the pit bull had previously attacked one of the couple’s children.
Prosecutors said Wheeler and Ramsey “abandoned” the children and “failed to provide appropriate supervision” despite the presence of a “known aggressive pit bull” in their house.
