Man kills ex-girlfriend, her friend weeks after she ended abusive relationship

A Texas man was charged with murder after he allegedly fatally shot his ex-girlfriend and her friend at an Atascocita home Monday.

Investigators said Yamil Javier Rivera-Perez, 34, broke into 26-year-old Charity Freeman’s home before opening fire killing her and 30-year-old Alejandro Suarez.

Harris County deputies responded to the scene at around 10:46 p.m. and pronounced Suarez dead. Freeman who was taken to the hospital by a family member also died from her injuries.

  • Freeman’s brother and her two children, aged 4 and 2, were at the home when Rivera-Perez showed up looking for her.

    The suspect found his victims on the second floor of the house. He did not harm Freeman’s brother and her kids.

    Family members said that Rivera-Perez and Freeman broke up late last year after an abusive relationship that lasted several months.
