A Maryland man is accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend and stashing her body in a “makeshift tomb” inside his home, Prince George’s Police said.
Devontae Gray, 30, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection to the death of Alexis Schuler, 29, who had been reported missing last week.
Officers responded to Gray’s home on Saturday and executed a search warrant, finding the woman’s remains inside the residence.
The Chief Medical Examiner determined Schuler died from gunshot wounds. Her accused boyfriend was caught on surveillance footage wearing a full-body construction suit with gloves, entering and exiting the home with construction materials on Jan. 12 and Jan. 13.
Detectives said the suspect brought cement, sheetrock, cinder blocks, storage containers, and other materials to his home.
On Jan. 14, officers conducted a welfare check at Gray’s home and noticed a “weird” smell. On Jan. 19, detectives returned and searched the home and found a handgun, and cleaning products at the scene.
The Prince George County’s Fire Department helped officers remove a drywall and discovered a “makeshift tomb” under the stairs and a bin containing a “human foot.”
Police said Gray took “extensive efforts” to hide Schuler’s body. He allegedly confessed to the killing.
