Gunman killed after shooting, injuring Georgia officer: ‘The vest has saved his life’

A Georgia officer escaped death during a SWAT shootout with a suspect who was ultimately killed on Friday.

Officers and a SWAT team were serving an arrest and search warrant at a Roswell residence for a man accused of firing a gun into the air on New Year’s Eve.

A man fled to the back of the house where he encountered an officer, firing twice, Police Chief James Conroy said.

    “It appears the vest saved his life, but he did suffer injuries from the incident,” Conroy said.

    The shooting is being investigated by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

    Police couldn’t immediately confirm whether the man killed in the shootout was the suspect they tried to arrest.
