A polar vortex is set to blast America next week bringing life-threatening cold to the Gulf Coast.

Below-average temperatures are expected to impact more than 300 million Americans starting this weekend and the cold weather will dip to the far south reaching Florida.

“Perfect time to hop on a plane and go somewhere south. Like really, really far south,” said Fox Weather Britta Merwin.

  • “These are the types of weather systems that even bring cold air to Florida. You know, there’s only maybe one or two times a year where we get a chunk of arctic air that really invades the country and gets all the way down to the Gulf Coast.”

“This is one of those. So, if you’re a snowbird, you like to escape down to the South – there’s no escaping this. Everyone will feel it.”

The FOX Forecast Center expected that 48 states will see temperatures brutally dropping below freezing with 80 percent of the population feeling the chill.

“That is cold enough that you do need to prepare,” Merwin added.
