A New York City building superintendent was killed and placed in garbage bags Tuesday after he went to collect overdue rent from a problem tenant, police said.

The body of Jose “Rene” Portillo was discovered under a bed by police at around 5 p.m. hours after he entered the Queens apartment and never exited.

Portillo’s concerned brother called 911 sending officers to the tenant’s apartment. A man led them to the body that was not dismembered but wrapped in two garbage bags.

Neighbors revealed that the 55-year-old superintendent had helped the “rowdy” couple get to the apartment where he was slaughtered.

“The (tenant) was drinking a lot but she seemed nice. They were always fighting. He was always drunk. You could smell the alcohol on him,” one said.
