A Florida mother is accused of abandoning her 5-year-old son at a park as a punishment while she was under the influence.
20-year-old Alize Angel Rodriguez is facing charges of child neglect, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of cannabis.
Witnesses saw Rodriguez dump the boy at the park and drive away with a man. They described her as incoherent and likely under the influence of drugs at the time.
The boy told the police his mother often punished him for misbehaving by leaving him alone in the park.
The witnesses waited 20 minutes before calling the police. They led officers to some bushes where Rodriguez threw a purse. Inside, officers found pills and marijuana.
Rodriguez denied being under the influence after her arrest. The child was placed with her mother.
