A homeless man was found deceased after a brushfire that erupted near an encampment early Friday, authorities said.
Firefighters responded to the scene at an empty field between Home Depot and Rooms to Go off State Highway 121 in the Colony at around 6 a.m.
After extinguishing the flames, they found the body of a homeless man in the debris.

The victim was likely sleeping on a mattress that caught fire. At least 3 inches of snow fell in the area since Thursday.
Authorities said the area is used as a homeless encampment.
The victim’s name has not been released pending next-of-kin’s notification.
