A Houston police officer was about to start his shift Saturday afternoon when he made a chilling discovery.
The Houston Police Department said in a social media post that the officers who worked with the Mental Health Division entered his car at around 2 p.m. to find a deceased man in the backseat.
“At this time, it is unknown how the male entered the vehicle and it appears he may have been seeking shelter from the weather,” the post read.
The officer had last parked his Ford Explorer near the department’s headquarters at around 9:45 a.m. Wednesday after finishing his shift.
In addition to the body, he found items that were not his on the front seat of the vehicle.
Investigators believe the victim, a man in his 40s, locked himself in the backseat of the patrol vehicle and was stuck while trying to crawl through the rear cage into the back cargo area of the car.
