An off-duty detective was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head inside his Chicago home Friday, authorities said.
The 59-year-old detective was found dead inside his residence on the 3900 block of West 104th Street in Mount Greenwood at around midday Friday.
His name and cause of death have yet to be released by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
In a message to fellow officers, Superintendent Larry Snelling announced the grim news revealing that the decedent worked out of Area 2 Division.
“I ask that you keep his family, loved ones, and all those who worked alongside him in your thoughts as they process his unfathomable,” he said.
“Grief can weigh heavy on us as we try to understand the loss of a fellow CPD member.”
The superintendent noted that officers can reach out to the CPD’s Employee Assistance Program and Chaplains Ministry.
