Georgia high school student killed in crash after she, another teen fled from police on motorcycle

A Georgia girl was killed in a motorcycle crash when the driver decided to evade deputies trying to initiate a traffic stop.

The crash occurred just after 1 a.m. on Jan. 1 when a Lee County Sheriff’s deputy spotted a speeding motorcycle in the 1700 block of Philema Road.

When the deputy tried to stop the motorcycle, the 19-year-old driver took off at a higher speed, reaching 90 mph.

  • The chase ended around 1:20 a.m. when the motorcycle crashed into a dumpster in the 800 block of Forrester Parkway.

    The driver and the 18-year-old passenger were flung off the motorcycle.

    Makenzie Jackson died at a hospital a few hours after the crash. Police said that she was a high school student.

    Michael Evans was treated for minor injuries and arrested on charges including vehicular homicide and DUI.
