Two people were killed and 19 others hurt when a small plane crashed into a furniture warehouse in Southern California, authorities said Thursday.
The kit-built Van’s Aircraft RV-10 crashed shortly after 2 p.m. just two minutes after taking off from Fullerton Municipal Airport.
The National Transportation Safety Board said the airplane’s pilot radioed the control tower requesting an immediate return to the airport for unknown reasons.
Once cleared to land, the plane made a 180-degree turn crashing into the furniture house roughly 1,000 feet from the runway.
The two deceased victims were reportedly occupants of the plane. The injured were workers of the warehouse; 11 of them needed hospitalization.
“The City of Fullerton is committed to providing support for all those affected and working with the agencies involved to uncover the details of this incident,” Mayor Fred Jung said.
“We are grateful for the strength of our community and the compassion we show one another in times of crisis.”
