Maryland mom charged with daughter’s murder after abused infant dies on NYE

A Maryland woman was charged with murder after her infant daughter died from alleged abuse on New Year’s Eve.

Maya Marie-Iman Dennis, 32, has been charged with one count of first-degree murder and first-degree child abuse.

On Dec. 29, Harford County Sheriff’s deputies and Child Protective Services responded to John Hopkins Pediatric Trauma Center where a five-and-a-half-month-old baby was brought with multiple injuries.

  • “The baby had been brought to the hospital by ambulance, presenting with multiple skull fractures, brain bleeds, a fractured leg, and numerous other life-threatening injuries,” the sheriff’s office said.

    “As the detectives continued searching for answers, the infant girl died from her injuries.”

    Police searched the family’s Aberdeen home and learned that Dennis was the only one responsible for the child’s care.

    The accused mother allegedly made “statements indicating she was responsible for the now fatal injuries.”
