Authorities in Florida have arrested a 29-year-old woman whose baby was found in only a soiled diaper at a Hollywood hotel and casino on Christmas Eve.
An employee at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino called the police on Tuesday to report that three men left a baby by the bell desk and walked away.
A responding officer “observed an infant wearing a soiled diaper out in the open elements” and learned the baby had been alone for about 300 minutes.
About 15 minutes later, the baby’s mother showed up looking for her child, telling the officer “She fought with her ‘baby daddy’ and the baby was left with some unknown friends whom she was unable to name.”
Rubi Verduzco, the baby’s mother, appeared “very intoxicated, displaying bloodshot watery eyes, slurring of her speech and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from her breath.”
The woman provided the officer with the baby’s name but couldn’t remember the date of birth.
Verduzco called a man who identified himself as the baby’s father and asked the state to take custody of the infant.
The baby was taken into the custody of the Florida Department of Children and Families.
