Two Oregon men died from exposure to inclement weather in a Washington state forest while looking for a legendary beast.
The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office said that the men, aged 59 and 37, left on Christmas Eve looking for Sasquatch, a folkloric creature some believe roam forests in the Pacific Northwest.
A relative reported the pair missing at around 1 a.m. on Christmas Day hours after they failed to return home.
A three-day search followed involving canines, drones, and sixty volunteers. The Coast Guard also searched for the missing men using infrared technology.
The men’s bodies were ultimately located in a heavily wooded area of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, about 150 miles northeast of Portland.
The Sheriff’s Office said the men’s deaths were a result of bad weather and the lack of preparedness for the trip.
