At least two storm-related deaths were confirmed in the South as severe weather continues to impact Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi throughout the weekend.
Several tornadoes battered Texas Saturday leaving a path of destruction in Liverpool and Splendora, officials said.
Manvel Mayor Dan Davis confirmed that one person died and “lots of damage to buildings and schools and power outages” were reported after the storms.
In Mississippi, Gov. Tate Reeves said Saturday that at least one person is dead and two others injured due to “severe weather.”
“Damage assessments are underway and will continue throughout the night,” the governor added.
The situation remains “Particularly Dangerous” in Texas where the Storm Prediction Center has “a high confidence forecast of multiple intense tornadoes” and a Tornado Watch is in effect.
The Storm Prediction Center said that only 7% of Tornado Watches are tagged “Particularly Dangerous.”
Strong and long-tracked tornadoes, large hail, and flash flooding are in the forecast in Texas where 2 to 4 inches of rain are also expected.
The severe conditions could reach Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama by Sunday.
