Three firefighters and at least 12 passengers were hurt in Florida early Saturday when a high-speed passenger train collided with a fire truck, officials said.
The collision occurred around 10:45 a.m. at a crossing in downtown Delray Beach.
Local media reported that the Brightline train’s front was destroyed and the Delray Beach Fire Rescue truck had its ladder ripped off from the impact.
Three Delray Beach firefighters were hospitalized in stable condition. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue rushed 12 train passengers with minor wounds to the hospital.
“The front of that train is completely smashed, and there was even some of the parts to the fire truck stuck in the front of the train, but it split the car right in half,” an eyewitness said.
“It split the fire truck right in half, and the debris was everywhere.”
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the collision.
