South Carolina boy, 4, fatally shot after being left unsupervised inside car

A South Carolina boy is dead after he was fatally shot inside a vehicle on Tuesday, police said.

The 4-year-old boy suffered fatal gunshot wounds at around 3 p.m. on Christmas Eve while inside a vehicle on Harbison Boulevard. He died at a nearby hospital.

    Police recovered a gun and are questioning the boy’s mother. Preliminary information indicates the victim was left unsupervised in the car with other children.

    The Columbia Police Department said an investigation is ongoing “to determine how the child was fatally injured” and “additional information will be released when possible.”
