A Texas mother was arrested after giving birth in a restaurant’s restroom and trying to dispose of her newborn in the toilet.
The incident took place Thursday at a Bexar County Whataburger, the police said.
The restaurant’s manager told investigators the woman arrived at the eatery around midnight and entered the restroom a couple of hours later.
While inside, the woman could be heard making noise and when asked if she needed help, she declined and remained inside the restroom.
First responders and deputies were called to the scene where they found a deceased newborn in its amniotic sac.
The baby girl couldn’t be revived and she and her mother were transported to Metropolitan Methodist Hospital.
Doctors determined the baby was 28 to 30 weeks. Her head injuries indicate the mother may have tried to force her into the toilet drain.
The mother, later identified as 33-year-old Mallori Patrice Strait, has been charged with abuse of a corpse.
The medical examiner’s office will determine a cause of death.
