A New Mexico teen called 911 earlier this month to report killing his parents and siblings, authorities said.
“I wanted to call you, tell you that I killed my parents,” 16-year-old Diego Leyva told the dispatcher on Dec. 14.
New Mexico State Police released bodycam footage of the teen’s arrest at his family home on Camino Escondido in Belen.
“When deputies arrived, Diego walked out of the residence with his hands in the air and was extremely intoxicated,” police said.
Four victims were found inside the home: Leonardo Leyva, 42, Adriana Bencomo, 35, Adrian Leyva, 17, and Alexander Leyva, 14.
The victims were shot to death and a handgun was discovered on the kitchen table.
Leyva was charged with four counts of first-degree murder. His former teacher expressed disbelief over the “family annihilation” he is accused of perpetrating.
“I would never have thought that something like this would happen and that Diego would be capable of doing something like this. Everyone’s in shock,” she said.
