A Florida man was gunned down by police in eastern Alabama after he allegedly fired at officers during a hostage situation.
Rainbow City officers responded to reports of a domestic incident that escalated to a “hostage situation” on Wednesday.

“The subject fired shots at officers on scene, and the incident ended in an officer-involved shooting,” authorities said in a statement.
The officers fired back at the shooter, killing him. He was later identified as 46-year-old Jamin David Elkins, of Mount Dora, Florida.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating the incident and findings will be handed over to the Etowah County District Attorney’s Office.
