Maryland mother admits to drowning infant; planning to kill entire family

A Maryland mother is slated to undergo a mental health evaluation after she confessed to drowning her 3-month-old daughter last weekend.

Mackenzie Rose Colgan, 37, called the police and confessed to killing her daughter on Sunday.

Colgan told detectives that she woke up in the morning with a decision to “end everything” and planned to kill her two children and husband.

  • At around 11:30 a.m., the mother took the baby upstairs to bath her. She filled a baby bath with water and placed it into a larger tub.

    “She then said that she turned the baby to face away from her and held the victim’s head under the water until she knew the victim was dead,” an affidavit stated.

    After drowning her baby, Colgan attempted to jump off a window but then decided to go downstairs and told her husband the baby was dead.

    Colgan, a licensed counselor, was charged with first-degree murder.
