A Tampa man was fatally shot by two Hillsborough County deputies after he allegedly pointed a gun at them while in a bathtub.
The incident occurred when a family member of 67-year-old Anthony Dadante called 911 after hearing gunshots from the bathroom where the suicidal man had locked himself.
Responding deputies Jose Rodriguez and Jenna Roberts arrived at the scene to find Dadante with blood on his chest, brandishing a gun in the bathtub.
Dadante refused to drop the weapon as ordered and pointed the gun at Rodriguez, prompting both deputies to discharge their weapons.
“What began as a response to a potential suicide changed into a life-threatening confrontation that no deputy ever wants to face,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said.
“Our deputies had to make a tough decision in an instant, and it was the right one.”
