A woman accused of stabbing her elderly mother to death on Thanksgiving eve reportedly smirked as she made her court appearance Thursday.
Diana Bekatoros, 51, was charged with second-degree murder in connection to the death of her 84-year-old mother, Josephine Bekatoros.
The victim was found dead with multiple stab wounds by her husband, who had been watching TV during the ordeal.
The suspect fled her mother’s Dix Hills home after the alleged crime and was arrested at her Long Island home.
A smiling Bekatoros appeared in court on Thursday. A judge warned her that smirking in the courtroom was inappropriate.
“It’s terrible that in a small town like this you have such a terrible tragedy happening around Thanksgiving,” a local said.
