A Florida mother found the bodies of her 5-year-old son and his father Wednesday morning when she arrived to pick up the child for the Thanksgiving holiday.
The mother first called the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office at around 7:30 a.m. to report that she was unable to reach the pair when she showed up at the man’s Lutz home.
Deputies responded and found “no immediate signs of concern” and did not enter the home.
At around 10 a.m., the mother returned and entered the residence herself, only to find her son dead along with his father.
“This is a horrible, horrible scene. Not only for the mother and the family of that child as they have to go through the holiday season knowing that they’re missing this family member, but it’s also a horrible scene for the deputies that responded here today,” Chief Deputy Joseph Maurer said.
Maurer added that the couple had been separated for several months.
