An Indiana mother was arrested on child neglect charges after she allegedly starved her infant to the point he looked like “a Holocaust survivor”, police said.
Christin Donat’s 2-month-old son was brought to a hospital while she rested at home after her work shift.
The 26-year-old’s baby was suffering from severe malnutrition, dehydration and starvation. He weighed just 6 pounds, two ounces less than his birth’s weigh.
“One of the terms used to describe this child’s condition was almost as that of a Holocaust survivor,” Vanderburgh County Sheriff Noah Robinson said.
The infant had symptoms such as emaciated temporal wasting which included “a sunken-in face, where literally all the fat has been used in the body, trying to keep it alive, resulting in the skin hanging from the bone.”
Donat claimed that the child spat much of the baby formula he was fed and that she was overwhelmed with problems to take him to a hospital.
