Austin news, Texas news.

Authorities in Austin, Texas, have arrested an 84-year-old man accused of killing his 83-year-old roommate and her dog in a “very, very brutal attack.”

Officers responded to the home the pair shared in the city’s University Hills section Monday afternoon over reports of a deceased person.

Once there, officers found a dead woman and dog. The woman was later identified as Linda Mlsna.

Investigators noticed the disappearance of Mlsna’s roommate, Jack Moore, and learned from a neighbor that the victim started having issues living with the man who was a friend of her son.

Moore was arrested on an unrelated carjacking offense. Police said that he confessed to killing Mlsna and her dog and stealing her credit cards to make purchases after the crime.

“We shouldn’t underestimate anyone,” said APD detective Israel Pina. “He’s 84 years old.”

“But you just can’t predict who is dangerous and who is not. It is disturbing that you never know, when you have someone living with you, who you’re actually bringing in unless you thoroughly vet them, or you’ve known them your entire life.”
