A 25-year-old Texas mother was arrested in connection to an incident that dates back to last summer, when she left her toddler unattended with two dogs and traveled out-of-town for a date.
Reese Louise Myers remained at large since July 28 when bystanders called 911 after spotting her 16-month-old child hanging from a window.
“Officers were told that a child was hanging out near a broken window and an aggressive dog was trying to attack the child,” the Killeen Police Department said.
“Upon the officers' arrival, they observed a child protruding from the window that was repaired with a plexiglass sheeting and cardboard. It was not shattered.”
The toddler was only wearing a T-shirt and had feces on their body and signs of diaper rash.
“Officers conducted a sweep of the apartment, and it showed the child was alone, with the exception of two dogs,”
“Officers contacted the mother of the child, who advised that she was currently in San Antonio and had been there since the day before.”
Myers told police she was in Alamo City to visit a man she met on a dating app and claimed she had left her child with a babysitter, which investigators say was not true.
“Officers then made contact with the babysitter, who advised she had previously babysat for the suspect last year in December and hadn’t spoken to her since,”
“She showed officers her Facebook messages and there were no messages after December 2023.”
Myers did not comply with officers’ request to return to Killeen. She remained at large until Nov. 5 when she was arrested in San Bernardino County, California.
