Georgia lineman dies at work after equipment failure: ‘I really do love my job’

A Georgia lineman died Wednesday morning while working in Griffin after an equipment failure, officials said.

Eric Weems died at the scene near the intersection of Spalding and Little streets. Another lineman was hospitalized in critical condition.

“I really do love my job,” Weems said in a 2020 Facebook video featured after his demise.

  • “I get to go out and do the things I love. I get to go outside, work with electricity, and work with a bunch of guys, just like me…and help others and get paid for it. You can’t beat it.”

    The fallen lineman said that he had been doing the job for more than 10 years.

    “After you’ve been doing it for so long, it’s almost second nature,” he explained.

    “But you have to remind yourself to watch out for things because every situation could be different. What worked yesterday may not work today.”
