Former One Direction member Liam Payne did not take his own life, prosecutors in Argentina said Thursday.
The investigation into the star’s death revealed that he was “not fully conscious” when he fell from the third-story balcony of the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires on October 16.
At the Thursday briefing, the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s office also revealed that there was a lack of “self-preservation reflex” during the fatal plunge.
That combined with the fact that the 31-year-old had drugs in his system and was in a state of “decrease or loss of consciousness” strongly suggested the singer did not fall deliberately.
“[The situation] would rule out the possibility of a conscious or voluntary act on the part of the victim, since, in the state he was in, he did not know what he was doing nor could he understand it.”
Three people have been charged in connection to Payne’s death including a “friend”, a hotel employee, and a drug dealer.
