An Indiana mother was charged in the drowning death of a foster daughter she left unattended in a tub while she chatted on the phone with a friend.
The incident occurred on May 21 when Hailynn Volpatti left the 21-month-old girl with her two toddler sons in a tub and went upstairs to chat on the phone.
When Volpatti returned about 30 minutes later, the girl was floating in the water.
A responding officer performed CPR and detected a “faint pulse” before rushing the baby to a hospital. However, the girl died on June 16.
The victim was born 32 weeks premature and had multiple health issues including feeding disorder and spinal asymmetry.
Volpatti, who reportedly changed her story of what happened multiple times, now faces charges of neglect of a dependent resulting in death.
