A Nebraska special education teacher was fatally shot in a domestic violence incident that ended with her killer’s death.
The incident occurred in a Chalco Hills home at around 3 a.m. Monday.
Officers responded to the call of the 19-year-old daughter of Rebecca and Rory Geiger who told dispatchers her father had gunned down her mother and pointed the gun at her.
A person inside the home fired a shot at responding deputies triggering a shootout.
“There was gunfire initiated by a subject from inside the house out the plate glass window. One of our officers returned fire,” Sarpy County Sheriff Jeff Davis said.
Rory Geiger was found dead inside the home. It remains unclear whether he shot himself, or was shot by deputies.
Rebecca Geiger had been a beloved special education teacher for a decade.
“She was just a very kind teacher. She was so good at helping her students feel very seen and very loved and very much like they belonged here at Westside High School, which is such an important thing for any student, especially her students,” Westside Community Schools said in a statement.
