A Haines City, Florida man was shot dead after he killed his wife and threatened to shoot deputies responding to the incident at his home.
41-year-old Adayn Rodriguez told his brother that he planned to kill his wife, 35-year-old Karla Rodriguez, and then make deputies shoot him, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said.
“He told his brother, ‘You call law enforcement, I’m going to make them shoot me and kill me,” Judd said.
“I’m going to kill myself. I’m going to kill her. But I’ve smoked a lot of meth, and it’s not going to hurt.”
The suspect also called 911 several times as authorities spent about an hour trying to de-escalate the situation.
After that, he showed up at a second-floor balcony and pointed his gun at a deputy, leading another deputy to fire once, injuring the suspect.
Rodriguez retreated into his home and a team of deputies followed him to rescue his wife. He was shot again and killed during a confrontation with law enforcement.
His wife was discovered dead inside the home, the sheriff said.
