The sweeping wave of recalls continues across the US as wholesale giant Costco pulled five more chicken-containing products from its shelves over listeria outbreak fears.
The products include frozen snacks and quick pasta meals and have been linked to an Oklahoma facility that manufactures ready-to-eat chicken and meat.
Costco has so far recalled about 200 products linked to the facility where listeria contamination was discovered.
Food inspection agency USDA fears an increase in listeria illnesses as the suspected chicken manufacturer had already distributed products to major retailers and hundreds of schools across a dozen states.
“The problem was discovered after FSIS performed routine product testing of finished product containing RTE poultry products produced by BrucePac and confirmed those products positive for Listeria monocytogenes,” the USDA said.
“Subsequent FSIS investigation identified BrucePac RTE chicken as the source of the Listeria monocytogenes.”
The newly recalled products were produced from May 31, 2024, to October 8, 2024. Customers are urged to discard them or return them to the seller.
