A helicopter crashed into a Houston radio tower Sunday evening killing four people, authorities said.
The incident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. when a private small plane collided with a radio tower in the city’s Second Ward.
Except for the involved radio tower, no homes or structures were impacted by the crash.
A fire that resulted from the crash spanned two to three blocks from the scene. The blaze was quickly extinguished.
The National Transportation Safety Board said the helicopter was operating as an air tour flight.
The victims were occupants of the plane. One of them was a child.
“We want to keep the families and our victims in mind right now. This is a horrible tragedy,” said Houston Police Lt. Jonathan French.
“This could have been much worse.”
