Head, hands discovered in freezer identified as those of missing daughter of previous homeowner

Authorities in Mesa County, Colorado have identified a severed head and hands found inside a freezer earlier this year as belonging to a 16-year-old girl.

The remains were first discovered on Jan. 12 by someone collecting the free appliance from the new owner of a Pinyon Avenue, Grand Junction home.

“Upon arrival, deputies found the head and hands of a human had been discovered in a freezer by someone who arrived to claim the free appliance offered by the new owner of the recently sold home,” police said.

After nine months of investigation, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office released the identity of the victim on Friday.

  • “Through DNA testing, the victim is identified as Amanda Leariel Overstreet,” they said.

    “Amanda is believed to have been approximately 16 years old at the time of her disappearance,”

    “Overstreet has not been seen or heard from since April 2005.”

    The girl was the biological daughter of the previous owner of the residence. The circumstances surrounding her death are under active investigation.
