A California infant was fatally mauled by a family dog in a Torrance home on Oct. 8, authorities said.
Officers and emergency personnel responded to a residence on Martha Avenue in Torrance shortly after 12:30 p.m. over reports of someone who had been bitten by a dog.
Once at the scene, the first responders located a wounded one-month-old baby and took the infant to the hospital.
The victim did not survive. Torrance Animal Control took possession of the involved dog.
Family friend Faye Tohiti said she “can’t even imagine how the mother feels right now,” adding, “She must be devastated.”
“They’re good people. They just didn’t pay attention to what they should’ve paid attention to, which is really a tragedy. It’s really sad.”
“I’m a dog person myself, and I have a dog at home, but the matter is that you don’t bring your infant to an atmosphere that has so many big dogs around. And it was wrong to begin with.”
